THE REPAIR PROCESS - The South Porch of St. Mary’s has been targeted twice; once in 2003 and again in 2006. The damage you see in
these images is the result of the latter. Previous repairs had also been dated to 1984.
The vandals first arrived one day and then came to complete their work the next – brave or stupid?
For several weeks the painting room at the studio was wall to wall with makeshift light boxes in order to get an overview of the damage to all 4 windows. We were not able to save much of the damaged glass and so there is quite a lot of new glass painted to match the lovely oil painting of the original artist. Some of the middle toned colours, such as the blue-grey ‘armour’ had to be especially made in the ‘Lamberts Glas’ factory in Germany.
